The Friends of Stafford Castle are dedicated to
preservingand publicising our heritage,
and actively support the Borough Council's initiatives in promoting
Stafford Castle
as an important historical tourist attraction.
Stafford Castle dates
from the period following the Norman Conquest in 1066.
Lands held by the defeated Saxons were shared among the followers of
William the Conqueror.
As a result, the estates to the west of Stafford, formerly held by Earl
Edwin were awarded
to Robert de Tosny, a member of a powerful Norman family.
The history of Stafford Castle now begins.
Stafford Castle comes
under the care and control of Stafford Borough Council.
